Our Apprenticeship

The Way of The White Helm

Prospective Legionnaires should take the time to thoroughly read and understand this document.

The Council of The Five developed the Apprenticeship, a unique feature of The Fallen Legion, to provide a meaningful way for interested individuals to learn about the guild by being a part of it, and for the current family to get to know a potential new member. Our guild is about respect, cooperation, and service. Being a Legionnaire is not about an individual, but about what is best for the group, the guild, the server, and the game.

Being a Legionnaire is walking a selfless path. It is intangible, an attitude, a way of life. We call this path the Way of The White Helm. The White Helm is a symbol; it is an artifact of the heart, not of metal.

This guide will help you understand our expectations, and will serve as a set of guideposts on your journey on the Way, a path that very well may lead to your joining one of the premiere player organizations in the history of the MMORPG genre.

Prerequisites

Please do not contact a leader with "Can I join ur gild?" or "Can I have an invite?" The answer will be a polite no. Successful applicants are well-spoken conversationalists and are genuinely interested in learning more about the group.

There is no time limit for any part of the Apprentice process.

In order to be invited to the guild as a new player, your character must be level 20 or greater. You also must have thoroughly read and understood both this document as well as Our Policies. It is important that you take the time to thoroughly read these two documents prior to contacting the guild. These items are colored brown on the flowchart below.

It is also necessary to have a substantive conversation with a current Legionnaire or member of the guild leadership. This conversation may or may not end with an invitation to the guild. Please be patient and understanding, as we are an active guild, and may not be able to commit the time and proper attention you deserve on demand. We will, however, certainly follow up with you as quickly as possible.

* - These two experiences must be separate experiences. Successful is defined as an experience in which the Apprentice actively participates, supports the endeavors of the group, represents himself/herself well, and conducts himself/herself according to TFL policy. Clearing of the zone or full completion of a dungeon is not required for this step, as often times we learn more from failure than success. That is one of the essences of being a member of The Fallen Legion: We fall so that we may rise stronger from the experience.

** - This stipulation may be waived by the leadership in extraordinary circumstances.

*** - Any guild leader may require a member to engage in a group experience prior to promotion. This may be most common for Solo Tradeskill players, as the Apprenticeship's core goal is to establish a pattern of positive character, and that is exceedingly difficult to measure without interpersonal interaction.

Talking the Talk and Walking the Walk

Those that actively seek above all else the substance of a guild rarely appreciate the spirit of a guild.

The above guide seeks to help quantify the unique journey of the Apprenticeship, but in the end it is a qualitative experience, and one that does not always end with an Apprentice becoming a Legionnaire. We respect that not every individual shares our views on cooperative community gaming, and we seek to empower every individual to get precisely the experience s/he desires out of his or her time invested in EverQuest II.

A successful Legionnaire is polite, positive, cooperative, and selfless. While we understand the solo playstyle and value a diversity of personalities, if you are an isolationist or are primarily interested in your own achievement and gain, it is unlikely that you will be as comfortable and successful in our family as you may be in a less service-oriented guild.

Asking for a promotion is the surest way to be denied one. Such behavior reflects an opportunistic, materialistic philosophy. Demonstrating cooperative, steadfast work ethic, leading by example, and adhering strictly to our standards of conduct will show readiness for greater responsibility and reward. If you actively desire and actively seek the benefit of a large and well-appointed guild hall, access to unique and discounted mounts, a sophisticated transportation hub, a state-of-the-art tradeskill facility, and the material wealth that comes from adventuring in the deepest recesses of Norrath... you will find that in several guilds on Everfrost... but The Fallen Legion may very well not be the place for you.

An Apprentice who has a lapse in judgment, is offensive or disrespectful, shows impatience or rudeness, represents the guild poorly, or otherwise steps significantly outside of established policy, shall be dismissed from the guild.

Sponsors

The individual who invites an Apprentice into the Guild shall be deemed that Apprentice’s Sponsor. A sponsor affixes his or her name to an Apprentice, and therefore bears some responsibility in helping to ensure that the Apprentice is being supported. The Sponsor is the Apprentice's first and best point of contact for questions about guild matters, and is expected to report to the guild leadership any significant positive or negative experiences that might guide the Council of The Five in rendering a final judgment on the status of an Apprenticeship.

In the event that the Apprentice is a minor, and that minor’s legal guardian is a Legionnaire (not an Apprentice), that Apprentice’s Sponsor will be said legal guardian.
